| 1. Corner/End/Gate Posts and
Braces are 7/8" diameter fibreglass of continuous glass filaments,
durable resin and ultraviolet protective coating. Upright posts are 72"
in length (3031B), diagonal brace posts are 60" (#3031). Brace hardware
(#3043A) – comes with steel base plate and hitch pin clips, galvanized
U-Strap with nuts and bolts. Properly installed corner braces allow for
tight wire which is essential for an effective fence. Tight wire is required
to touch the animal’s hide by separating the fur (fur acts as an
electrical insulator).
2. Line posts are ½" diameter x 60" long fibreglass of continuous glass filaments, durable resin and ultraviolet protective coating (#3029). Line posts with insulators keep the wire strands separated and at the proper heights. 3. Fence wire is 5/64” galvanized stranded (1 x 19) cable (#3015 – #3018). Galvanized stranded cable is easy to work with, durable and has a high breaking strength. 4. A plug-in electric fence charger (controller, energizer) which runs from 110V A/C power is preferred as they are more powerful and less expensive. Where A/C power is not available a battery operated fence charger can be used. Battery operated fence chargers equipped with solar cells are popular as they can operate continuously for years from the sun’s energy. Fence chargers with built-in performance meters provide an at-a-glance overall indication of the condition of the fence. 5. Grounding options: Ground rods ¾" diameter x 6' steel rods (#3048), Ground plates 3/16" x 16" x 8" steel plates (#3049). Ground plates are often used where terrain makes it difficult or impossible to drive in a ground rod. For better grounding extra ground rods and/or plates may be added. Proper grounding is essential for an effective fence. 6. Ground clamps are heavy-duty, stay tight and are made from bronze (#3051). Never use anything but a bona fide ground clamp as proper grounding is imperative. 7. Double insulated polypropylene covered 14/16 gauge hook-up wire (#3051). This wire is used to connect the energizer to the fence and to the ground rod/plate. 8. Gate handles with heavy hooks and long hand grips (#3021). 9. Cable clamps (#3025A) are used to connect wires together. 10. Wire rope gripples (#3022) are used to connect wire together and can also be used to tension wire. 11. Electric fence warning signs (#3023). 12. 5/64" Aluminum oval sleeves (#3013) are used to connect wires together. The American swagger (#3012) is a hand tool which is needed to crimp the ovals. 13. Wheel tightener (3039A) is used to tension the cable. A strainer hand tool (#3040) is required to turn the wheels. 14. 2” U-clips (#3069) are used to fasten the wire to the corner/end/gate posts. These clips hold each wire strand at the proper height. 15. SnapMax spring clips are used to fasten the wire to the line posts. Six ½" galvanized wire clips (#3025) per post. These clips hold each wire strand at the proper height. 16. Post pounder/puller (#3019), a heavy steel pounder for installing posts. Also has built-in handle for removing posts. 17. Cable cutter (#3012A) is needed to cut the galvanized stranded cable. 18. Electric fence
testers are used to measure the voltage on the fence. This is very useful
when trying to locate shorts or diagnose other problems with the fence.
Several types of testers are available: Digital (#3009), or Analog (3009A),
or Five-O-Lite (#3008). |

| When choosing a battery for your energizer there are a number of considerations. There are two main types of energizers: 1) Mains and 2) Battery. The main difference between the two is mains are powered by 110-120 Volt A/C (plug-in household electricity/grid power). Whereas battery operated energizers run on D/C current and often are powered by either a 12 Volt or 6 Volt battery. Battery powered energizers have the ability to have their battery charged by a solar panel allowing them to be used in remote areas for extended periods of time. Mains energizers are preferred as they are more powerful and less expensive. However, where A/C power is not available battery operated energizers are used. |

When Choosing A Battery For A Battery Operated Energizer There Are A Number Of Factors To Consider Dry cell primary batteries (#4007) are the best choice on short-term (approximately 1 week) small fences when using a battery powered energizer without a solar panel in a remote area where weight is a consideration. These batteries are inexpensive, compact, lightweight and designed to be used once and discarded. They also have high energy densities compared to rechargeable batteries. Meaning they can operate the fence energizer longer as compared to one charge of a rechargeable battery. Gel cell batteries are the best choice to use on any size of fence in remote locations with an energizer equipped with a solar panel. Parmak solar energizers come from the factory with rechargeable sealed gel batteries. These batteries are designed for use with solar panels. It is important not to let these batteries run down as they will develop a memory and effect the performance of the energizer. These batteries are heavy and expensive however, they are rechargeable and if maintained properly will last for years. It is important to note these batteries cannot be recharged with an automotive battery charger, they must be charged with a tapper charger (#3005D & #3005E) only. Deep cycle RV/Marine style batteries are the best choice to use on any size of fence in remote locations with an any battery powered energizer. They are designed to be regularly deeply discharged using most of its capacity without developing a memory. These batteries are heavy and expensive but are rechargeable and have long life spans. They can be recharged with solar panels or with automotive style chargers. |
